lift and tires
i recently purchase a 97 XJ and want to give it a little more beef but i plan to keep this vehicle simple as compared to my JK. i can get a Rough Country 3" lift with add a leaf for a good price from a local friend. my question is what size tire should i run with this lift and still be able to run my stock wheels?
also with the tire recommendations i'm looking for good snow traction.
current tires i'm looking at are Goodyear MTR w/ Kevlar and the Goodyear Duratracs. both have great snow reviews. i just have no clue on size.

The AAL would be be fine to use, you can run 31/10.5/15s or you can go with some 32/9.5/15s which is what im going to be running. you can cram 33s under there if you do some trimming
i don't want to trim right now as i bought this for my winter vehicle primarily and i also want to conform to maine legalities... so i can't run too big of a tire or too wide.

I run the same lift the OP is talking about and 31/10.50/15's and I rub a lot. If you plan on doing any offroading you will need to trim. I have pictures of my "custom siping" haha.

If you're going to be doing any driving in icy conditions, I would stay away from the MT's and go with an AT with lots of siping (BFG AT, General Grabber AT2's, Firestone Destination AT's).
x2 on the 31x10.5's with the 3" lift...will work well. Just bumpstop better if they get into your fenders with the stock backspacing.

Bumpstops with a 3" and some ATs for anything less than a few feet.
If you are pushing through stuff over your bumper, MTs are needed.

3" lift will fit a 31x10.5r15 tire no problem. I would recommend the BFGoodrich Mud Terrain T/A KM2's. I have heard nothing but good comments about them. Or you could go with the Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. I heard those a pretty decent too! Best of luck to you!
probably going to run the duratracs as this will give me a good review for these as i will be running the mtr w/ kevlars this spring on my JK and will then have a good ground to stand on for feedback on those as well.
i've read lots of good reviews on the duratracs in the snow. and they have lots of siping.
again i don't plan to run offroad at all with this at the moment as that's what the JK is good for although i've always been a firm believer that XJ's are trail beasts! i think that's why i liked the JK and went with it... kinda consider it the new day XJ.

BFG are great, but... If you're broke you can get some PEPBOY special like I bought dirt cheap. Dakota M/T picked up for about $110 each. Noisey as hell but haven't let me down yet. And they come with an amazing warranty
