Lift questions
Ok this is my first post so here I go. I just picked up a 96 XJ on a 4.5inch(I think) lift with 33in Firestones. Im looking to make it a bit higher (2inches or so) Would I be able to throw some spring spacers on the front and extended shackles in the rear? Or will this cause other problems with the drivetrain angles? Thanks for all your help. I tried searching through 17 pages before I posted on here.

Ad for extending the lift it depends on the lift that was installed.. If it already has non oem shackles as a part of the lift then you would need new leaf packs or add a leafs for the rear..the front a spacer would be fine if one hasn't already been added..It is my persona;l opinion and I am sure others will disagree you should not use more then a 3" front spacer any more and IMHO it's bad for the coils but that's just me..So basically we need more info..what lift is installed and what components were replaced when the lift was installed and what not.

As OKC says other people are gonna disagree(me) It is at it's limits at 4.5" without long arms. The control arms are already stressed and any amount of flex is going to see them at their limits or past which tears the boxes that house the rearward end of the control arms. Some cheaper kits will break or bend at ant height approaching 6.5" so you need to re-think your geometry and use for this XJ.
Yea I would love to know what exact lift it has on it. Ill take a bunch of pictures and post them up on here for you guys to see. Maybe you guys will be able to tell by looking at it. Thanks for the quick responses!
Ok I took a few pics of the Jeep and the suspension set up that is on it. Let me know what you think. What would I have to replace in order to install 2in spring spacers and extended shackles?

First two things I would look at....
A dropped pitman arm and steering linkage upgrades. You are reaching the limits of stock system.
I can't tell from the pictures, but is that an extended track bar? If not, do yourself a huge favor and get one......
Those look like short-arms. You are getting to the limit of them being much use. Realistically if you see much street driving, 6" of lift with short arms isn't going to be much fun at all.
BTW... Those are great tires.

Yea it looks like the stock track bar. In the next couple months Im looking at getting the 1 ton steering upgrade and adj. track bar. Im having both lower ball joints, both front U-Joints, and both front hubs replaced as we speak. Any suggestions on the pitman arm like you said? Anyone one have any idea what size lift this is?
im gonna go ahead and ask "why?"
if you wheel it you will notice it feel more unstable off camber and on hillclimbs and a much less desirable ride. if you mall it, have a party.
that appears to be the generic rc 4.5" lift
at the minimum you will need to ditch the trackabr relocation bracket and replace it with a stout hd adjustable trackbar
new upper control arms, preferably adjustable
longer brake hoses (looks like your running stock hoses now
)
longer shocks
sye and cv shaft / axle shims
new steering, preferably over the knuckle at that height. if you run inverted t steering (like most one tons) you may experience a dead spot in your steering due to tie rod roll because your drag link is at too steep an angle. and if you do that or a drop pitman arm you will need to move your trackbar just as much to eliminate bumpsteer.
a lot of money for 2" of lift you don't need

HAHA! Well thats why I asked you guys first! Your really turning me off of the idea now though. I wanted to fit 35's on it and wanted to bring it up a little with out having to get a completely new lift kit. The idea doesnt seem to practical anymore. Any suggestions on other changes I should make then?

Take a picture of the rear shackles up clsoe of the back and the sides of them..Also a pic of the leaf packs.. I am pretty sure that's a Rough Country lift but need to see the shackles first.
its either a rough country or a rebadged rough country. you can tell by the bent control arms with bushings, trackbar relocation bracket, and extended swayabr endlinks

You are correct..I was mainly looking to see if it was new leaf packs or AAL setup..would help with deciding what direction to go with on the lift to get more out of it..
