I'm looking to go with about a 3" lift for my 90 XJ. Any suggestions on which brand I should go with? Looking to spend less than $500.

Id probably go with rough country its usually the best bang for your buck never had problems with any of my vehicles or my buddies and preforms rather well

 

I haven't dealt with too many different brand lifts but I run a Rusty's 3" full leaf pack lift I think it ran around $450 and I have 0 complaints about it, it's been on for about 2 years and no sag. My buddy is running a Zone Offroad 3" add a leaf lift that ran him a little more than $300 and I think it rides just as nice as my rusty's and TONS of flex.

 

I just put a rusty 4.5lift under my xj and I am really happy with it good instructions made it easy to instal and good on and off road performance

 

Do u need a sye on that 4.5 or is the transfer case drop enough

 

With any lift you buy, go with full leaf springs in the rear unless your Jeep is a low mileage survivor with fresh rear springs. An add a leaf isnt the way to go. If you dont have enough cash for that wait and save it up to do it right the first time.

I dont have sye and everything it working well but I am planning on getting one

 

most kits come with a Tcase drop,the need for an SYE[up to 4.5"] will depend more on your generation of XJ, 84-96 ran tcases with a tail cone on the output shaft which provided support, 97+ got rid of this tail cone and simply put a boot over it leaving a significant amount of shaft hanging out the back of the case with no support which is where you will get more vibes from. That said anything above 4.5" of lift it is recommended to get an SYE as you usually have to run a longer rear shaft at that point.

for OP im running the 4.5" RC kit with short arms and full packs that ran me around $500CDN over 5yrs ago and its still going strong
