Default Lift block ?

I was doing some thinking and i was wondering if i could use a heavy duty wheel chock from tractor supply hardware and some long u bolts to make a body lift to compensate for rear leaf sag. I would like to just buy some new leafs but i have to pay for my wedding in October. Thanks to all who reply

This brings up a good question. They say that blocks will invert your springs and make them go flat. Does anyone know why blocks will do that, but the spring perches don't? It seems to essentially be the same thing.

A lift block on the leaf spring multiplys the force applied against the springs under acceleration. It is the same principal as using a piece of pipe on a ratchet handle to gain leverage on a stuck bolt.

Secondly, he is asking about using it as abody lift. And for the 100th time this month. You CAN NOT BODY LIFT an XJ. It is a unibody design and the frame rails are constructed as part of the body structure.

Xjcrazy... as mentioned you cant do a body lift. If you want a cheap lift for the moment look at some coil spring spacers and either lift blocks or an Add-a-leaf for the rear.

Check out.

I've got a set of lift blocks I'll sell ya cheap (and a set of RC AALs too if interested).

:-)

They will supposedly trash your springs, but if yours are already trashed then you don't have much to lose.

i'm sure he meant lift blocks, as he did mention longer u-bolts.

as mentioned, the extra leverage will flatten out your leafs quickly, this will cause spring wrap and wheel hop. this will also quickly reduce your shocks.

i would just do a bastard pack with some s-10 or dakota leafs to get the height you need.

you could also get your leafs re-arched at a spring shop, but it is expensive, and will likely flatten out again.

best bet is to get a new spring pack or build a bastard pack AAL will only be a bandaid and lift blocks are just no good shackles are also another option that is fairly cheap

If he meant lift blocks, then that is what he should have said. Answers will come for the question that is asked. Now taking into consideration he was referring to suspension lift blocks. I seriously hope that no one would actually think that a wheel chock from TSC could be used as a lift block.

Funny thing is winston is I saw a guy the other day on the side of the road with his rear axle under the middle of his truck and I stopped to help and he said he had just done the lift and used "WHEEL CHOCK'S" From were it does not matter. Of coarse he did have two 3" chock's on top of each other but that is a different matter. Point is not everything cheap is stupid but when stupid people are cheap then you have a problem!

Blocks themselves won't do that. The problem with them is that on a weak spring like the XJ rear it causes the spring to flex more in the center and it is possible to pull the drive line out too far from the tcase. Just adding the blocks themselves will pull the driveline out a little.

The best and cheapest thing to do is to remove the springs and have them rebuilt. They will be as good as new. Or you can use some leaves from another spring to compensate.

post some pictures of these chocks, what i can say is that actually u can use everything metal that has a rectangular solid (parallelepiped) shape with a hole in the middle (aluminium would be nice), hollow box shaped stuff is not rigid enough.
If u build them on your own, u can give also a little angle to help drive line angles.
