yesterday it was my dad that asked about the "brake compressor" i later educated my dad and told him it was the ABS.
the question: should i be able to hear the ABS every time i come to a stop.

not everytime... but pull the relay it wont hurt your braking any, abs is just there to mod the braking pressure when sliding (Assisted Braking System) brakes are brakes no mater which way you toss it

do you mean the Brake Booster? the black cylinderical device attached to the firewall that the brake master cylinder mounts on?
if that's what you mean, it is called a Brake Booster, and no, you shouldn't be able to hear it every time you press on the brakes.
I don't know where you got that from...couldn't see anything said about a seat

the ABS relay is located in the relay control centre under the hood. I'm assuming you have a 91 xj by your title, so it should be located directly next to your coolant reservoir. pop the relay cover off, read the labels on the underside of it, and deduce which one is ABS, if you even have ABS. then if you desire, pull the corresponding relay.
I would be too...this entire post doesn't seem to make any sense

the only thing that could relate to a brake compressor is either a caliper, wheel cylinder, or brake booster. the brake booster is the only thing you would be able to actually hear...and only if it's failing.
to the OP, what's the noise you're getting? does it sound like a vacuum leak?
