Left turn signal = rear only hazzard lights
Weird issue with my 1998 XJ.
Sometimes but not always when I turn on the left turn signal, I get both sides blinking in the rear only. It's seemingly random as to whether it's gonna happen or just be normal.
The dash indicators & front lights just act normal when the left turn signal is turned on.
I'm thinking the trailer light harness might need going through at this point, unless this is some "it's a jeep thing" deal.

I have this same EXACT problem with the left turn signal. I've had two people tell ask me if I meant to have my hazards on while they were following me. I didn't think much of it, but I did back up to a big window to see what was going on with them.
I kept turning the left signal on and off until it did it. If I jiggle the turn signaler (the thing you push down) a little while the signal is on, it will sometimes stop blinking the right one and the left (correct) signal will be blinking like it should.
I'm not sure if it's doing it on the rear AND front, but I think it's only the rear because I've never seen the reflection of hazard lights in the gloss of a car in front of me. I avoid signaling left, but I've checked randomly and have never seen it happening with the front.
Anyway, it's kind of annoying and I don't even want to think how much it would cost to have someone check all of the wiring, etc. What makes it more inconvenient is that the left signal is probably the most important in keeping the flow of traffic.

Yep, I've replaced every bulb back there... still does it. I'm convinced it has to do with the actual thing you push down at the steering wheel, possibly a short or something, because when I jiggle it a little bit, it stops blinking like hazards.

I'm having the same problem. I haven't tried this yet, but it looks like a successful fix to the same problem

Also, just as one author in this thread said, I've noticed that I only get the hazards when I push down the left signal into the locked position. If I push the lever down enough trigger the signal, but don't push it down hard enough to lock it, the hazards never come on.

I don't have a solution, but I too have this exact same problem, been trying to figure it out for a while and haven't gotten to far. Mine doesn't have trailer wiring.
