Default Leaky Oil Pan

Ok, I paid a guy 80 bucks. HA, HA. I know, I know. That was my first mistake. LOL Anyway, I paid this guy 80 bucks to change my oil pan gasket on my 97 Cherokee Sport I6. He ended up using RTV and we put it back up. The thing is, when he removed the pan, a U shaped bracket thing fell off. I didnt see were it came from and the guy said it was nothing important. I said OK and we finished up. I waited 3 hours to put oil in it and I waited 24 hours till I started it. I drove it and she did great. When I was coming up the street to my house, the wife told me that it was leaking oil. I pulled in the driveway and crawled under and sure enough, it was leaking right at the back where it meets the flywheel area. It was then that I decided where that bracket went. I removed the two bolts from the back of the pan and put that bracket up where I felt it should go. It still leaked. Was this because he didnt put the bracket on when the RTV was still wet and it cured without making a good seal or is it something else? I am pretty sure the pan is gonna have to come back off. Any help would be great

If you are leaking right back there it is VERY possible that your rear main seal is leaking.

I dont have that u shaped thing on my oil pan and it doesent leak at all

Removing the oil pan is 3/4 of rear main seal job. If you have some basic tools and an afternoon you can do the whole thing yourself. Do a search on the forum for rear main seal change. There are a whole bunch of write ups on the topic
