Default Leaky Axle

Hello. The left front axle seal on my 92 XJ with a Dana 30 started leaking. I replaced it on Friday night and it seems to still be leaking. I power washed the axle yesterday and it did not mark its spot for the rest of the day. It is not leaking much, been sitting here at work for 6 hours and there are about 4 or so drops on the ground. How do you all press the seal back into place inside the diff housing? How much of what I am seeing on the ground could be residual draining out of the housing? Should I tear it apart and put a new seal in again? Maybe it needs a speedi-sleve?

Thoughts?

Thanks,
codfish

Residual is exactly what i was thinking. Give it some time and see if it stops.

Do they have speedi sleeves for the D30 shaft?

Not sure if they do. I have seen some repair seals as well, but did not see one for that shaft listed last time I was looking in the seal book.

Anyway...thanks. It should stop leaking.

Thanks,
codfish

this ^ its very common for residual to flow out for a day or two. wouldn't pull it apart again until you wait for a few days
