My 91 xj is leaking water from somewhere near the water pump only when the enige is turned off not when ruuning. Any suggestions?

 

You think it could be the water pump? ;-)

Next time it starts leaking get a inspection mirror and look on the underside of the water pump. There is a weep hole there and when the pump is about to go it will blow the seal. More then likely it is the water pump.

 

I'm already changing out the alternator and planned to just change the water pump.

 

Not running coolant? Just water?

 

I say WP. Do you have more water than coolant in the system? Maybe that's why it looks more like water....just a thought.

 

Sorry I just call the coolant water. Its all coolant and no water.

 

Its all tore down and waiting on my lazy butt to go to the parts store to pick up new parts. Look at what I found.... funny thing is i have no vibrations or noise when shifting.

 

It looks like the bottom half is still in tack.
