Default Leaking transfer case

Ugh after I fix one leak I find another, just figured out my transfer case is leaking from, went to check the fluid and their was nothing in it! So filled it up and now it's leaking. Any ideas on what part could be leaking? It looks like its just wet on bottom so maybe the casing?

Try to pin point the leak. Clean it off with break clean or some kind of degreaser. Then check for a leak again. If it is the case...I'm sure you can just take it apart, scrape off the old gasket, then use rtv (gasket maker) for the new gasket. Looks like that's what the previous owner did on my XJ. Would be a hassle but well worth it.

Weell without pictures it's a bit hard to say where the leak is... if the fluid was TOTALLY empty though I'd do a full rebuild on that thing. Aside from fixing leaks, running dry will have eaten away at components inside.

If there just wasn't much in it (I can't remember where the drain plug is) then I'd still suspect the main seal between the two halves, the major egress points for the output shafts, the section between the rear half and case that holds up the slip yoke (oil pump is inside this part and speed sensor mounts onto this) and the hole for the gear selector (sits beside the front output shaft).

This is for NP231 btw.

Yes I forgot to mention that it is the np231. Is it possible to remove the transfer see with out dropping the crossmember? The PO had somehow managed to either break the passenger side front bolt/stud or weld nut in the frame and just welded that part back on so it's going to be a huge pita to drop it if it comes to that
