Default Leaking oil when hot

Hi everyone.

Ok so here's the deal. Yesterday it was really hot out and I was driving my 96 Cherokee 4.0. No this was all city driving so it was getting pretty hot. Not in the red but about 1/2 way between strait up where it normally is and the red. All of sudden I look behind me and I see all this blue smoke coming from the back of my Jeep. Not good I thought so I pulled over right away and looked underneath. There was a lot of oil leaking from what looked to be the bell housing and dripping on the ground and was all over the bottom of my tranny and the cross member. It was also blowing onto the exhaust which is why it was smoking. So I got it home and parked it and when it cooled down I took it for a spin around the block and it didn't leak at all? There is no more the 2 drops on the ground from the time I parked it till now. No I gotta say it has done this once before. It was almost the exact same situation, real hot day, city traffic. That was about 2 years ago. Now I know I prolly have a little bit of a leak in the main seal. Its always wet down there and there is a drip on the bell housing. But never anything on the ground and certainly no smoking lol. Any ideas of what cause this? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Cheers

sounds like the rear main seal a common problem in these 4.0s

x2 It's most likely your rear main seal.
