Default Heater Control Valve

Looks like your heater control valve is leaking. Here's a replacement:

Just bypass it. 98+ XJ's no longer had the control valve anyway.

I agree. Bypass it. All it does is redirect coolant flow around the heater core when the heater is not in use, which IMHO just allows the trapped coolant to stagnate. Just bypass it and make sure you plug the little vacuum hose connected on top of it.

Like said above. Don't replace it! Just remove it. It's not needed.

Ahhh so this is why my 99 blows slightly warm air when the mix is set to 100% cold. Freakin' annoying

Replace the heater hoses with hoses for a 98+. That simple.

Just a FYI for the people thinking that the 98 doesn't have a control valve your wrong. It's under the dash near the heater core.
Now that I said that just get rid of it for the winter time. Now I sat that cause in summer you will have coolant pumping thru the core causing a already hot freakin day even worse in your xj.
Why not replace? There not expensive. $30 is the most expensive one I found. Takes 15 min to swap. Paying for the molded hoses to "bypass" it is probably gonna be the same cost.

Didn't realize it had been relocated, I've always heard it was removed. I broke mine while putting an engine from a 98 in and just swapped the hoses over. Can't say it makes it any hotter in the cabin, but with 100*+ heat I don't think it could make it any worse.

On the positive side removing it should at least help cool the coolant...

Ok so I may be wrong on the 98 having it under the dash. Lol. It was a long day.

But also late Cherokees have a door that closes off the airflow to the core. Early ones don't.

I think they do. The vacuum actuator under the dash on the passenger side? At least my '92 and '96 had one. Not sure about any of my renix xj's.
