Howdy all, been away a bit. Anybody have any good front shock ideas? Just fronts since I have air shocks on the rear. (that means I miss some rebate deals on all four).
Not lifted stock with 235's. It's my DD, I don't "wheel" but I DO deal with 6 miles of washboard and potholes on my hill when I go out.
I found some Gaberal's around $30 on Rockauto said they were extra duty for trucks or something.
I'm pretty much in the dark on anything suspension related, thought I'd see if someone here had any experience with an "economy" (< $35) shock that could hold up to a little abuse.

I use Monroe Spectrum on the WJ. Seems to work fine both on and offroad. Can be had for $25 but price is usually $35. The WJ and XJ rear shocks are the same.

Thanks Steve. Those are about $33 + shipping on rock auto, tinkling I may well go with those. Shipped here the Moneroe 37026 are about $75 for a pair from RA. If you buy 4 you can get a $50 prepaid Visa refund, probably a pretty good deal...
I did find I could get a pair of the Spectrum shipped on Ebay for $64.
Pete I just got confused there. Googleing "take-off Rupricon" isn't much help and am not familiar with "pins" on shocks. I did look at Rubicon shocks which seem to be pretty spendy. Maybe I'm missing something? Thanks in any case!

Guys put lift kits on new JK Wrangler Rubicons all the time. The shocks that come off are frickin awesome!! all you have to do is change the pins on the bottom. You'll understand it and be able to do it with a vice and a coupla sockets.
With your road, they would be perfect!!

OK, to wrap this thread. The used $70 shipped Rubicons came, I pressed out the sleeve from the bottom end and installed the pins/parts from mine to adapt them for the front of an 89. See photos.
The Metal "sleeve" I pressed out of the Rubicons is 5/8" OD as opposed to the 1/2 in OD of the Fitting for the 89. No problem there with me, just "normal" pressing those in, as opposed to the nutty tough job pressing the original 5/8 out. One vice, (Big Bertha)(RIP), on the corner of my deck for 10 years was KO'd in the process. (Rubicons, 1, Bertha O).
Forget using a hammer. Two guys set up well with a sledge hammer or a maul maybe. Getting the metal OUT of the Rubicons is no joke.
The ride is SUPPER! Sometimes without me even thinking about it I notice the ride is smoother on my bumpy road. No doubt superior to the ones I had been running, which had not failed BTW.
Photos might not be in much order. These were gas charged to about 40 lbs. of pressure (see pics). Shipper seems a bit odd. Packing materials, : 5 casters : A rubber mallet: some few square feet of adhesive backed rubber? : an electronic stud finder. (no studs in my log house):two nice new tennis *****: some sort of lawn darts?: Brake no squeak powder: Lastly a Haynes manual...go figure. Nice guy anyway!
Again I recommend the change. 80 0r so pounds of extra "lift" and a supper ride, 5 stars there.
Edit, added.. Btw looking for a new vice...... Also, the 3/8 drive shorties were crucial to my act. The vice only opened enough to fit one, then once partly out I could add the second to finish pressing that SOB out.

Actually Smokey is very good at figuring out how to be right in the way. I tolerate it since hes' often really bored. Yea, like I said the Rubicon's are supper.
