Knocking on front axle

Knocking on front axle
There is a loud knocking/clanking sound coming from front axle when slowing down. Can hear it in the cabin and when windows are down. It's a 98 aw4 with np231 tc. I just replaced rotors and pads.... Please help..thinking maybe u joints?
