I have a 2000 model xj. When i bought it it just came with a regular key. I went to the dealership and they looked up the vin and found out my jeep did come with factory keyless entry. I just then bought the key fob and had it programmed.

i actually got one off a member on here a while back, take it to a local locksmith, call first and they can program it to your car, it was like 30 bucks

Don't forget the circuit board for the keyless is in the overhead compartment.
If you get fobs from another Jeep just get the board and plug it in.
I switched to a different overhead consul and just pluged in my board, works great.

The dealership charged $50 to program the fob. You can provide a fob yourself, but they cant guarantee it will work and youll be out $50. I just bought a fob from them, it was like $70 new

all the people around me wanted about 50 bucks to program a fob and the cheapest fob i could find was about 20 bucks. i was going to do that until my jeep got broken into. i decided to have an alarm put in. got insurance to pay for it, 200 bucks installed from car toys. has impact sensor and senses any movement (someone stealing or slashing tires). well worth $200 imo
