Default Keyless Entry Button 2000 XJ

I bought my 2000 xj a couple months ago from a friend and the keyless entry button was buried in the back seat. He didn't even know he had one. Anyways I changed out the batteries and it was working fine until last week. Part of the time it would work until now it just totally doesn't work anymore. I've never had issues with keyless entry on any of my cars so I have no idea how these things work. Should I just get a new button or has anyone heard of these being another one of the electrical issues that xjs have? Also the passenger rear power window switch seems sensitive. A couple people have rode in the back and accidentally hit the switch for a quick second leading to the window rolling all the way down. Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

my keyless on my 2000 doesnt work either.. must be common. my next step is just buying the new chip. its inside the dome light. just pop the light cover off and take the screws out and maybe see if it came unplugged somehow.

Ive read a couple threads about just taking it into the dealer and having them reprogram it. ive also looked a little bit online for the actual chip in the dome light and cant find one.

ya you mentioned trying to get a new chip so I started looking and couldn't find anything online either. I may try to go to the dealer today.

in my 2001 the unlock button works if you press it repeatedly 6-272 times, but the lock button always works. ive just learned to live with it....

also, if i hit my headliner twice really hard on the driver side next to my overhead console the doors lock.
