keyless entry
my '98 came with keyless entry but the previous owner lost the key fob. i got lucky i barter a center console latch i have extra for the chip board and key fob from another xj owner i sold parts to on craigslist. he installed after market alarm in his xj and said does not need it. it's easy to install. my xj have overhead console so it's right in between the front/back dome light in the ohc. the sport is in the dome light housing. just swap out the chip the key fob come with and that's it. i saw xj key fob few times at the junk yard and never thought grabbing it. i always thought it's a dealer thing you have let them program into. now i know how easy it is to make it work im snatching it up next time i see key fob in a xj at the jy

I'm very happy with my bottom of the line viper unit. I bought it for $40 on amazon. I wired it solely with the existing wiring to the factory rke. It does exactly what the factory fob can plus panic in this configuration. It was an easy install. Let us know if you need any help.
All this talk about dealership programing is accurate. The dealership I used called NW Jeep in Beaverton Or. Look them up online and cal them to ask how much fob programming is.
The local junkyards do not have any jeeps from 97 or newer. I called 2 junkyards in the country. One place wanted $45 and another place wanted $20 plus shipping. I still would need the origi al fob or go back to the dealershio and have them program it.
I can get an aftermarket keess entry with alarm and have it installed for a total of $150. I do not like remote start. I would still have to go outside everymorning and make sure heat is on. My car is in my driveway. I like the alarm because i can use the oanic feature if i want to or it might scare off any potential thief.

You would need the original fob that goes with rke module. Otherwise you need to have the dealership program. If I did get one from a junkyard with out the fob then i would not know if it works until the dealership programs it. I never heard of a keykess entry moduke going bad. Never experienced this before

I would only want the alarm so if I hear it I can go outside and investigate. Our street is pretty small so it would attract attention. I would also forget to adjust the climate controls the night before. I would just walk outside in the morning like I do know but on the heat. Some said alarms are silly. They are not. They have a purpose just like remote start does. For me I rather have an alarm than a remote start. Keyless with alarm is cheaper than keyless with remote start. Im getting my system installed on Tuesday at bestbuy.
