Key won't turn the ignition switch
I put the key in the switch,on the steering column, & it will not turn to start it.I get something & beat on it & it may work.If not, I beat on it 'till it turns the switch & starts.

sounds like the ignition switch rod or the neutral safety switch, there are two rods on the top of the steering column, one releases the ignition when the trans shifter is in Neutral the other is the rod that in slides the ignition switch. could be either of them.

Next, the steering lock. The pin that locks on a perforated steel disc inside the steering hub could be bound up. Does your steering wheel unlock easily?
Next, the ignition key doesn't actually activate the starter, as you rotate the key the lock cylinder uses a lever system to push a rod down the steering column that activates a switch that flips a relay that makes your starter go. It's all very Rube Goldberg. Check to make sure the actuator rod isn't bound on something.
I'm guessing your key is just worn. If you have a spare, try that one.

Think about how the key/starting system works. Insert key which depresses tumblers in the lock mechanism. First potential problem. Could just be a worn key or tumblers... more likely the key. Could be some debris in the key slot.

The switch will only turn lto acc location will not turn to start, we have already changed the switch cylincer no help, the rod going down the steering column does not seem to move how do I access this.
