Our Jeep does not have a remote entry fob. I do not know if it came with one but if it did it’s long gone.
The key unlocks all the doors and tailgate individually but it does not unlock the entire car.
Should the key operate all of the door locks when unlocking and locking the car from the drivers door? Is there a switch on the barrel that should operate all the door locks at once?
The switch on the inside door control panel locks and unlocks all the doors perfectly.
TIA

No, the XJ does not have central locking. The key will only open the one door. Normally you open the driver or passenger door, then toggle to door lock switch to unlock the rest of them (sounds like you already do this). Still, you may have keyless entry (just missing the fobs). The receiver would be in the overhead console.

I can’t imagine that finding a fob that will work with the CL especially as the immobiliser has been removed (are they linked?).

I can't say definitively (I think No). The immobilizer is linked to the key through the PCM. The fob is linked to the keyless entry circuit board up in the overhead.

Even though mine is an '88, that's what I did. Got a cheapo aftermarket and only hooked up the features I needed (locks, light flash).
There are tons of fobs available on eBay but I don't know if you can self program them to work. Perhaps someone else will respond soon. Some folks buy the module with matching fobs for a plug-n-play fix.
