i need some help removing my key cylinder lock from my ignition switch so i can replace my ignition switch... need pics and detailed instructions.... i've looked at a dozen how to's and nothing is helping.... ignition switch is already removed from steering column just need my damn key cylinder out so i can put it in the new one... my DD is currently in my driveway inoperable until i swap this so the sooner the better

I have a 1996 XJ Country that the ignition lock cylinder broke, the key will turn all the way but never catches the proper mechanisms to start the motor. I have the shroud removed, but that is as far as I have gotten.
There are several online instructions that explain some ideas but there is nothing really good. Wiki.answers.com has one that seems to be okay.

So what did you figure out to get yours replaced?

same problem, I was lucky enough to find the whole ignition assembly at a junkyard with a key in it. 3 tamper resistant torx screws, then popped out the door locks on both doors (2 door)...

might be easier for yah to do that, 5 screws total counting the guard around your steering column (i'm basing off the bigger one thats on columns with airbags)
