I saw a kn&n drop in air filter for $20 on craiglist and am set to get it tomorrow. Just wondering if this is a useful mod, and if it can be used with a bored throttle body.

Some people swear by them; others say they don't make any noticeable diffference.
You can use it along with your modification.

Why spend $20 on a K&N when the Air Hog is $9?

but seriously I have a KN in mine, and I have noticed not one once of difference... I do know that if the filter is not properly maintained that it can allow dirt to pass and destroy sensors... Also they don't do anything to stop water at all, at least the paper ones give a resistance to small amounts of water...

I had one of those fram air hog filters in my jeep... And it sucked... My gas mileage when way way way down i was getting 24 miles per gallon but when i put it in i got 11 miles per gallon...

K&N claims that the dirtier it gets, the better it filters.Originally Posted by reddragon72

"Destroy sensors"--that is from someone using too much oil on the filter after cleaning it. The oil film gets on the MAF sensor and throws it off.

K&N's are good, if anything for the savings of never having to buy a filter again.
I have not noticed an increase in power or MPG, but throttle response was a bit crisper (due to the higher air flow). I'm sure there are power gains, but it is probably so minuscule as to not be noticed...

I've been getting 22mpg all the time. I changed everything expect the fuel filter which is inside the tank, and the o2's.

I guess they should change the name to "Gas Hog" then, anyway, I haven't noticed a 50% reduction in MPG as of yet.Originally Posted by GoreXJ95

That was the first thing I did when I bought my 2000 in 2002. I noticed a bit more power on take off and once I switched out my muffler it became more noticeable. Don't expect anything big either way though.
Probably the best thing is that 7 years later I still have the same filter, I'm sure it's paid for itself.

the thing with k&ns are people tend to over oil them so then they get all that oil **** caked to the inside of the intake tube and airbox, which just traps debri/dusty in those areas and it tends to accumulate. plus from what ive heard/read they filter for ****. try it if you want or just throw in a NAPA/WIX filter and be done with it.
also i had an airhog on my old TJ and it sucked *****, def brought my mpgs down. what a waste that was.
