Hey Everyone,
Just wanted to get everyones take on K&N Air Filters. I had always used one in each of my previous Cherokees and cars but after some research here lately I feel like they are more bad then good.
Does anyone have any good info regarding there good and bad?

K&N drop in around $50 have to clean, but is supposedly good for 1 million miles
Regular paper filter $7 evey 10-15K miles can be replaced 7 or more times for the same money... and I like paper better, cept when it gets wet.

I think it depends a lot on the vehicle and the metering system. For instance my bike doesn't like a K&N b/c it can't account for the change in vacuum and additional air so it needs a means to provide the additional fuel. I think for a Jeep it comes down to the fact the cams will only pull as much air as it can so there is no benifit...just a guess. Then I've heard the excessive oiling can cause premature MAFS failure...
I stay with the paper ones on my Jeep.

actually, i've seen test for flow rates on different air filters, none were different enough to say one really flow signifigantly more. But for a filter to flow more air it has to catch less dirt, period. Think about this a 1/2 clogged filter, filters better than a new one, but flow dramatically less. Oh, btw 7 paper air filters, replaced every 15K is 105,000 miles. So it takes you 100K miles of driveng before that K&N saves you anything in the $ department.

I believe some material/designs can flow more air and still catch the dirt.
That said, I don't think there is any difference on a 4.0L except maybe sound.

So, don't. Like most things, there is some gimmickry surrounding any aftermarket part.
Kinda like using synthetic oil if you're still going to change it every 3k. Just a waste of money. I like the K+N's because on my Stratus, I clean them at about the same frequency I change the oil. 25,000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first. (And lately it's the mileage, not time.)

2evil, the guy asked a question, gave an opinion, I don't buy 'em.
Also as to your waste, I guess i'm a wasteful person then, I buy syn oil at wholesale, as in 2.50 a qt, and change it every 3K in my 1989 corolla, cause it uses a qt, so I just change it instead of topping it off.
