Well after a couple weeks of work on this free jeep xj we got our hands on it was ready for it maiden voyage into the bush. well it died on the way home. just sputtered to a stop and now it wont start. We cant hear the fuel pump priming..so thats our guess. Its a 92 4dr XJ Lareado. Is there any tests we can do before we pull the tank? thanks in advance

 

if u cant hear the fuel pump.. and it sputtered (as in runnin out of gas) till it stopped. sounds like a fuel pump to me..its not gettin fuel.

 

Check for 12v @ the fuel pump.

 

theres normally no symptoms of a fuel pump going out. they just stop pumpin so if u got 12v at the pump. and its not pumpin.. there ya go

 

use a fuel pressure tester, hook to valve on injector rail, if no pressure check for 12v and ground at sender assy.

 

are you sure you have gas, you can never trust the gas gauge on these cherokees. just tap the tank with something metal and that will tell you right away. you don't have to pull the tank to get to the pump either

I would recommend buying one from an auto parts store. I think they run around 100 bucks, The up side is it is fresh the one you get from the jy may only work for a couple months because most xjs in the jy have 150000 to 250000 miles on them.

 

autozone has them for 120 with strainer assy. lifetime warrenty!!
