ok got a 94 chero and the valve cover gasket is leaking oil going to get a new one but what precautions should i take when replacing it thanks

I usually make sure the old gasket is cleaned off the valve cover and head then I blue silicone the gasket on the cover, wait for it to dry then put it on the motor...Tj

Just make sure the mating surfaces are as clean as you can get them, and don't drop anything into the motor! Also, be sure you don't overtighten the bolts when you put it back on, a snapped bolt will ruin your day quick.

While you are in there, I suggest taking the little plastic tube that runs from the valve cover to the intake manifold (back one) and cleaning it out thoroughly. It's the vacuum feed to the crankcase ventilation system built into the cover, and tends to gum up with, well, gunk.

Also, be careful with the temperature sender on the back driver's side head. It will break off if struck too hard.

Torque setting is 55 inch pounds with permanent gasket or 28 inch pounds with RTV.

^This^

and make sure you get ALL the bolts tightened down good, especially that evil one that seems to be right up next to the firewall...
