Default Junkyard ZJ Tie Rod Condition (Pics)

I had a buddy of mine pick up this ZJ Tie rod when he went to the JY, what do you guys think of the condition?

I figured I could replace the short end but not sure about the other end. Can I just replace the bushings or should I just scrap this piece?

Thanks,
Jake

How tight are the ends? The boots look in tacked so it might be useable.

Did a quick jiggle of them before work and didn't really feel a great deal of movement

Personally if it were me I would at least put new tie rod ends. Why take a chance of them having to be replaced in a little a little after you got it all back together?

Well that's what I was thinking, I found the short one no problem but the the.one attached to the ling end, I can't seem to find, it just always comes as the entire tie rod, I know its replaceable but for some reason when I'm searching I can't find it.

DAMN! I didn't notice that. Come to think about it when I redid my 98 I had to buy the complete tie rod since the end on the long section doesn't come off. To be honest I can't remember what the long section cost when I replaced mine over a year ago.

Any ideas on how to do a good test with the tie rod removed? Put it in a vise and look for play?

Bolt it up and run it. It'll take 15 minutes to put in. If it feels loose, swap it back out.

Personally, I'd buy it new. You can find the tie rod, adjuster sleeve, and outer tie rod end all for 60-80 bucks depending on where you look. Yours looks fine though, just a little dirty but whatever.

Ya I need to clean it up for sure, cant believe I didn't think about greasing them, I've never done any tie rod work before but it seems simple enough to do, lots of write ups available.

Tested rods, they both move very stiffly and stay in position
