Default jeep wouldn't idle when wheelin

96 xj 4.0ho auto

I drove about 2 hours away yesterday to go wheel with my cousins. It was around 100 outside. We went on a easy trail that took about 3 hours. Half way through my jeep start sputtering and died on me several times. If I reved it past 2,500 rpm's it ran fine. It sucked...bad, every tight turn I had to slow down for it would die on me. Got done with the trail opened the hood and let it cool off and the 2 hour ride home was fine.

So i pulled the codes and there wasn't any (on the trail). It felt like it didn't have any fuel. I read around and it sounds like it could be one of the following.
-bad crank sensor
-bad fuel pressure regulator
-bad check ball in fuel pump?

The truck was running just over the 210 mark the whole time. I'm going to do hood vents and e-fan but I want to fix this problem before I do any of that. Any ideas would be great. It has to do with the heat, I've never wheeled in this hot of weather.

Thanks
