Default Jeep wont start. No spark! not the ignition coil.

Hi. I have a 1990 Jeep Cherokee. I drove it to work yesterday and everything was fine. This morning I go to start it again and it just cranks and cranks but never starts. AAA came and tested everything and said that there was no spark, so he went and got a new ignition coil and installed it.. the car still doesn't start. I've been reading about it possibly being a faulty CPS connection but I have no idea where the plug to unplug and re plug is located. I've tried to look at pictures but it doesn't seem to help. Does anyone have any other ideas? Or can anyone explain to me in detail how to unplug the CPS to see if thats the problem?

Not a bad Crank Position Sensor connection but a bad sensor.
Its on the bell housing, with a bright light you can see it looking down behind the intake at about 1:30 position. Follow the wires to the plug.
Check it with a multi-tester. Renix CPS should read 200 +/-75 Ohms.

I really know nothing about cars and engines. What do you mean when you say "behind the intake" I've been going back and forth between the computer and my car trying to figure out where this connection plug is. Any description would be greatly appreciated.

Do a Google search, for Renix FI Manual pdf
Its an engien manual, it will show you all this stuff that confusing to you, and explain how to check.

ok, climb underneath and look on the bell housing of the transmission on the drivers side, near the top. you should see a thing with 2 bolts in it and a wire coming out. that is the CPS. unbolt it, then follow the wire to the plug and unplug it. good luck

So I climbed under the car and found the transmission.. I think I saw the connection and the wires coming from it. I found where I thought the plug was.. but it after unplugging and replugging.. car is still not starting. Is there anything else it might be? I think i'm giong to have to have it towed to a mechanic.. i just wanted to have a general idea of what was wrong before they charged me for testing everything.

Just take it to a mechanic. Unless someone draws you a diagram I don't think we'll get anywhere. Try and find someone you know to do it for you. I know I do stuff like that all the time and if its easy enough to do I don't even charge people I know... (unless I can't stand them)

it really isnt hard... like i said, the thing is bolted to the back of the bell housing, top, drivers side. its 2 little bolts, like a 10MM or something. it unbolts then lifts out. then follow the wire to where it plugs in near the firewall, AROUND the intake somewhere. put the new one in (they can be bought on ebay for 25 bucks)

where are you located?

Are you getting power to the coil? That should be the first thing to check before throwing a lot of parts at the truck. It may be a bad CPS or one of a few other things like your ignition relay or even a fuse. Get a service manual and start checking from the beginning, you can save a lot of money! Good Luck!

What if you are getting power to the coil and the cps is not bad?
