lol thanks, i had a buddy do that and i didn't think to check the color of the spark. this is after i shocked myself with what apears to be a coil pack going bad because i didn't feel much. lmao the ways i test things arent smart.

Default cps or not cps, that is the question

hi, would the cps cause the coil to not spark but engine turn over but not fire? for the last week i have been having a problem starting it .

Yes, that is exactly what it would do. You can unplug the connector and spray some electrical connector spray because sometimes it's just a bad connection, not a bad CPS. Happened to me last Saturday. Changed out the CPS and I got spark, but it wasn't enough to start it. I guess when mine blew, it set off a chain reaction which blew out the coil and Camshaft Positioning Sensor, also. When mine went I was driving it made a huge backfire and stalled out. It actually blew out my muffler!

By 'it' if you mean the CPS it is located on the bellhousing of your transmission in the 11 o'clock position. Did you say RHD. Then maybe in the 1 o'clock position. Sorry no pics for you. Two 10mm(i believe) bolts hold it on. The harness runs up to the TB area that's where the plug is.

Sorry it took so long to get back, I just got home from work. Here is a diagram of the routing http://media.photobucket.com/image/j...or_diagram.jpg . Not sure if it's the same on the UK version. To find the sensor go to the left side under the hood (driver's side for us Americans, not sure about UK). Look down by the firewall by the back of the engine, and you'll see it mounted in the bellhousing. I'll try and find a picture for you. When you replace it, go under the jeep with a ratchet, 7/16th socket on a universal attatched to about 20 inches of extensions. It helps to have a friend position the socket on the bolt from above by squeezing their arm between the firewall and engine down to the sensor.

Don't know what TTP stands for, but if you need a real picture from the engine compartment I can try to get one tomorrow, as it's too dark now.

Wow sounds exactly what happened to me. Make sure you're careful, they're made out of aluminum. I broke one side completely off so instead of rigging it, I'm getting a whole new distributor from the junkyard tomorrow. Don't worry, I feel your pain, lol. You may have to use a nut and bolt to hold the cap on or retap the hole one size bigger. If that suckers not secure and straight, you'll blow the rotor to pieces. The bolt snapped on one side of mine when trying to turn it over and the distributor cap flung up causing the rotor to smash the side of the cap. I took off the cap to find 4 pieces of a rotor.

Hey 96Cherokee113 thanks for all you time , effort and help. i got my cherokee back the other week turns out they replaced the crank shaft sensor to no avail then changed the CAM shaft sensor and she fired straight up. just thought id mention it incase anybody else has same problem. the next thing they were going to replace was the oil pressure sensor (wonder how much that little blighter is) total for repairing my cherokee with new crank and cam shaft position sensors was £ 345 so be prepared to be out of pocket of go on a diet so you can remove your own sensors. gbya
