Default Should I get my tranny rebuilt or find a used one

I just picked up this 95 xj, it has a Skyjacker lift in it. I'm not even sure how high the lift is, but it has 32s on it. Anyway, I dont need a new trans. right now, but its clicking pretty bad in reverse.

So should I look for a whole trans. or rebuilt this one?

Thanks

Find out how much a used one cost, then how much to rebuild. Then get the cheaper of the two. Look at the trans fluid before you buy one, make sure it's not all black. And also check the milage on the Jeep.

is it AT or MT, that makes a deff as well. but it sounds like a u joint but then again it could be a deff going out as well. my step dads truck did that. clicked only when you backed up. we went to change the gears out and there was a crack in one of the teeth, one the back side to where it never clicked unless you went backwords. something esle to look at.

its a MT. the clicking actually goes away when i take it out of gear and i'm still rolling backwards, so i don't think its the diff. but thats not a bad thing to check.

as for the U-Joints, i bought the rig with a blown out rear drive shaft. so i had to replace it and the u-joints. so there brane new, this is why its puzzling me. I thought maybe the pinion angle, but that seems like it should be fine..

to add to the issue, i noticed my transfer case is leaking fluid aswell. it started making a whininng noise today. so i think i should just start looking around for a tranny and transfer case.

all depends on how long you plan on having the vehicle.

if you plan to keep it for a long time, I'd say do a rebuild. not extremely hard in a 5 speed.

if you buy a used one youre not sure of the quality of it before you put it in and you dont know how much longer it will last.

with a rebuild you know its in good condition all around and you wont run into problems like you might a lot sooner on a used. just my 2 cents.
