I have a 1997 Jeep Cherokee that wont seem to start. It all started one really cold night when I got a jump. Tonight I replaced the fuel pump, and that didnt solve anything. Also my fuel gauge isnt indicating when I turn the key on.

Any ideas? I put a different relay in the spot, and still not getting pressure to the in the rail.

Would be helpful if you actually test for spark (pull a plug) as knowing if you have spark or not really narrows this down.

What you are describing could be the crankshaft position sensor. Without it, you will not have spark and the fuel pump may or may not work.

And a faulty crank sensor often results in no readings of fuel or voltage, and you report that your fuel gauge isn't working.

A failing crank sensor is a very common problem. I'd check for spark and or test your crank sensor.

Thank you. I will look deeper into the CPS. It seems to be common, and have a few similarities with my current problems.

 

First and easiest thing I always do is get a can of starting fluid (You can get it anywhere even 7-11) and blast a bunch into the intake. If it starts up then you know it's a fuel delivery related problem. If it still doesnt start then you can begin all the spark related electrical things.

 

i agree but will add on that thke a hammer and smack the starter couple of times i had that prob yesterday and tryed that and WAM it worked

 

I had the same problem this past weekend, I had a bad set of wire from the harness to where they attach to the gas tank. If you can, take the fuel pump out again and test each length of wires maybe. It's easy to eliminate this if you have it out or before you put a new filter in. I should have.
