Default Jeep wont start

I have a 92 xj with 180k that has always started with a little bit of delay. It always turned over on the first try but it always took a few seconds. This morning I try to start it and nothing. All the electrical stuff works but the engine isn't even clicking.

Any ideas/ thoughts on what could needs to be replaced would be appreciated. Thanks guys

The reason I ask is that I had the same issue recently that ended up being that one of the battery cables had come slightly loose. Worth checking in my opinion if for nothing else than to eliminate that possibility.

If it's an auto the first step is to rule out the NSS, try starting it in neutral, move the gear shifter around a bit. If you still don't have any luck move on to the starter, if your starter is good remove and clean the NSS.

try and crank it while someone is tapping on the starter with a hammer, is this starts it then the starter needs to be replaced. if this doesn't start it could still be the starter. but keep us posted man

Well went to advanced and had the battery checked and the battery is fine. Prior to today the jeep would always turn over on the first crank but always took an extra second or two. The guy at advanced said something about the fuel pump?

I need some help guys!!

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, is it even cranking when you try to start it?

If it's not cranking the problem isn't fuel. As I said before try starting it in neutral, test your starter (jump the solenoid) If your starter cranks I'm willing to bet it's the NSS. There are dozens of threads on here on how to remove it and clean it.

I will say mine can be irritating at times I have not cleaned the NSS yet as I need to. BUT about once a month it wont start. This is what I do Put the Jeep in neutral and while holding the shifter with my right hand try turning it over with my left hand, while I slowly adjust the shifter forward and backward within the neutral spot. Eventually there is a Teeny Tiny sweet spot after it starts that one time usually dont have problems again for a little while.

Might try that.

Lets clarify what the problem is. Is it cranking but not firing/starting or is the motor not even turning over when you turn the key?
Two different problems with two different solutions. This thread is giving you advice on both so please let us know which one we need to address.
