Default Jeep Trannys 5 spd question

ok so insted of lookin through the big internet, i think i would get a faster and better reply on this site, so my trannys growling and i was wondering if the 5 speed manuals are the same through all the Cherokees years, i have an 86 cherokee 4.0l, Thanks

No, they are not all the same.

If you have a V6 I *THINK* its an AX5, but I could be horribly mistaken.

If its 86 it should be the 2.8 v6 the 4.0 was started in 87 and the tranny should either be an ax5 orthe puegot ba10 and if its the v6 not the 4.0 the ax15 wont bolt up youll need an adapter plate but if its the 4.0 any year ax 15 will bolt up

well its a 1986, says on the title, has a 4.0l in it, hmm ill have to do some looking around, should it be stamped on the tranny what it could be?

ohh and its not the one in the pick, if anyone asks

well by the looks of it someone put some work into this thing and dropped a 4.0l in her and a 5 speed tranny, is there something stamped on the tranny telling me what it is?

the tranny mout wuill tell you peugot is really big and has a bracket on it for the exhaust

if you see a row of bolts holding the two halves of the case together (split top to bottom in the middle) its a BA-10/5

^^^ note the cast iron mid plate on the ax5 vs the aluminum one on the ax15.

However i don't see him having an ax-15 swapped in, nor a 4.0L...that's a metric crapton of work on an 86.

Post pictures OP - engine bay and tranny - I'm intrigued.

AX15 is the same for all years far as i know. Just be sure to double check if it has an internal or external slave cylinder.

try and put some picks of it tomorrow when i get some more daylight! Thanks for the picks guys, it will help a ton!

Oh yeah and it has an internal slave cylinder( 1/2 the reason im pulling the tranny)
