Yeah so I never maintained my cooling system and overheated my 01' with the weak head a few dozen times while doing flushes to try and fix it.


So today I got the new OEM style radiator, water pump and fan clutch installed.

Things I learned.

You can never have enough 10MM and 9/16 sockets.

Quick disconnects suck.

Quick disconnects can be replaced by hose clamps.

Don't over tighten bolts in aluminum fan clutches.

No, oil in the antifreeze is NOT good.

Buy a 15 MM socket, trust me, BUY A 15 MM SOCKET!!!

Maintain the cooling system!

MAINTAIN THE DAMN COOLING SYSTEM!!!

My Jeep runs 10 to 15 degrees cooler with the new parts.

I see a write up on installing a head in my future...

 

And I am now a firm believer that most , if not all, overheating problems are maintenance related.

 

Lesson definitely learned!

Yes, the 0331 cylinder head does not like to be overheated. Your new hobby is to religiously check the coolant level in the reservoir because "the #1 symptom of a cracked 0331 head is unexplained coolant loss".
