I have a 95 XJ, 4.0L with a 5spd. 200k on the clock. I did some wheelin this weekend and a noticed when the rig is in 4x4 the thing is really jerky. Its seems like there is alot of slap in the drive line. When you drive over rough terrain or even just mild bumps it started jerking and making noise in the drive line like it is slapping back and forth. I hope this is making sense its kinda hard to explain. Has anyone ever had this problem and is there anything I can check or due to cure this problem?

I had a jerky problem on the highway after hitting sharp bumps, turned out to be the crank sensor. When it's jerking around, watch the tach needle and see if it dropping.
x2 on what Bustedback said. Does it do it ONLY in 4wd? Does it do it when you are driving straight or when you turn a certain way, or either way? Under what conditions can you replicate the problem?

Its not an engine miss and has to be something in the drive line. Jeep runs great if your just driving around normal on the street. 4LO also make this worst.

Its doesn't have to be in 4x4. Its just seem worst when it is. It will do it in 2wd also and doesn't seem to matter if you straight or turning. It kind feels like if you had a u-joint ready to fall out and it was just slapping back in forth.

What about pulling the front DS...then take it out and see how she feels. If nothing changes, reinstall the front and pull the rear out. Put it in Part Time and take her out again (Easy...no racing here). Might help in locating a place to start.
Can't remember if the slip yoke area of a 95 is sealed or not. Double check before pulling the rear.
