Hi, I own a Jeep Grand Cherokee LE CRD.

I bought it from new in 2004, have done 103k miles.

I’ve had a problem with it, prior to buying the Jeep I changed my car every 3 years. Once I had the Jeep never wanted anything else!

Last week sad to say I had a problem and I’m told the ‘gear box module’ needs recoding.

it drives like its stuck in 3rd gear.

As my Jeep is more than 10 years old I’m told there are only a couple of dealers in the country that can recode the module or replace it?

Anyone know about this problem, could let me know what’s involved? I can’t get any info about it.

Okay, seeing as how this is a export model and you've in the UK? You're probably right about the lack of service dealers. If it's just a matter of reprogramming it, it needs a DRB III scan tool and the handbook that goes with it. I don't believe the 2004 Grand has a separate Transmission Control Module and it's part of the main computer. I could be wrong about that. The 42re transmission in my 2000 Grand is controlled by the computer (PCM) for shift functions for the 2-3 and 3-4 shifts. Does it shift from 1 to 2 and beyond if you shift it manually? It would be nice to know what transmission it has in it.

This needs to be moved to the Grand Cherokee section where there may be someone more familiar with this.
