Default Jeep dies without applying throttle

Just went to start my jeep at work to drive to a job site and it wouldn't start. It started when I gave it gas, but died immediately. I started it again by giving it gas, and it remains running if I keep giving it gas, but dies immediately without it.

What should I check? Nothing looked like it was disconnected at first glance.

Random things I should mention:

-It was power washed on Sunday - sat until this morning when I drove it to work without issue
-It's parked at an angle up on a curb so I can get under it if I need to.

My 99 did the same thing. I took out my IAC sensor and cleaned it really well. Try that, it fixed my problem. Here's a "how-to" link:

Pulled and cleaned the IAC with a paper towel - don't have any carb cleaner on hand. The metallic part was pretty dirty but that didn't have any effect.

Someone on another forum suggested the TPS could have been damaged by power washing the engine. Just pulled it and I don't really see a way water would get in, but does this sound like a possible cause? NAPA has a TPS for $40.

No go with the TPS... installed a new one and I still have the same issue. I'll try cleaning the IAC with TB cleaner.

Crankshaft Position Sensor.

Common problem. had the same issue on mine and a new CPS fixed it. Might be good to check your o2 sensors as well.

Cps wouldn't let it run at all if faulty

Check your OBD for thrown codes. 25=IAC 22=CTS

IAC may be bad so cleaning won't help.

It was the IAC. The shaft (and mushroom tip... lol) actually fell out whenever I was cleaning it. I had put it back together, but the AAA guy who came to test my battery and alternator said it was hosed if it fell apart while cleaning. Pulled the IAC and turned the ignition to on to test to see if the motor would activate and the valve didn't move. Replaced the IAC and the Jeep lives.

Good call on the IAC.

Mine started doing that....among other things, I cleaned the throttle body and it's running great now. My throttle body was all gunked up.

There are plenty of threads on here about a faulty CPS causing a no-start when hot. Seems to be a regular issue.
