1990, Jeep Cher. 4.0 Liter. 2 Wheel Drive. Manual. 250,000 Miles.

I've been noticing a problem with my jeep where it dies right after i put the clutch down, to come to a stop, Only right after its been started.

Any time after that it wont die when i come to a stop and use the Clutch.


An example would be, I wake up.. go turn it on, go to the end of my driveway, I stop at the end, and it dies. I turn it back on and it runs fine.. I can stop and go and it doesnt die. Then i come to the Drive thru bank. I Turn the Jeep off. do my banking, Turn it back on, drive out of the bank and come to a stop, put my clutch down, put my break on.. and it dies. Then i fire it back up.. and it runs fine all day long.. I can stop at every stop light.. nothing happens.. Then i get to Wal-mart.. shut it off.. do some shopping.. come back out.. start it up.. drive until i have to stop.. put the clutch down, the break down.. and it dies. Start it back up.. and it runs fine the rest of the trip.. and doesnt die at any stops.

If i start the jeep up.. and drive for more then 15 minutes without ever stopping, i wont have the problem.. its only within the 1st few minutes of the jeep being started, that it will die if it comes to a stop.


I can i cheat the jeep out of it by feathering the gas while its stopped after a 1st start, but it feels like there is something wrong.. i have no idea where to start though.



Would anyone have any suggestions as to what it might be ?

Maybe your fuel pumps going bad, mine is and it takes about 30 seconds after starting before I can accelerate without hesitation
