Jeep Cherokee
Hello, I'm new to Cherokee Forum, I have a 1988 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 Its a 4X4 manual transmission. It grinds going into 3rd gear , 4th gear, and 2nd gear sometimes also. Sometimes it wont go into any gear either . But once it's in gear it drives fine. Does anybody know what this could be please let me know . I could use all the help i can get.

Just a quick suggestion, titling your post with something related to your problem will lure more traffic and thus more responses. Something like "Grinding Gears". This is CherokeeForum so we automatically assume you are posting about a "Jeep Cherokee". Welcome to the forum, by the way!
I agree with 1998redxj, it sounds like synchros but could also be bent shift forks. You've got an '88 so you've likely got the Peugeot BA-10/5 5-speed transmission... they're known for grinding. If you're not comfortable tearing into your box, take it to a transmission shop. It will probably need a rebuild. Another option would be to swap your Peugeot sourced 5-speed for the more reliable, stronger (some say), AX-15. You can find these in good condition (used) for $150-$300. It will likely be less expensive than a rebuild on the BA-10 and you'll end up with a more robust transmission that has parts more readily available.

New Jeep? Have you checked every single fluid level on it yet? If not, why not?

Whenever a new to you vehicle is acquired, the fluids should be checked at a minimum and replaced to be safe.
