Default jeep broke down

so i was going offroading on some hills today on the way to a mudding spot in my stock 98 cherokee sport and i hit a few bumps a little rough but i was driving towards the mud and my gas peddle just stopped working and the car came to a stop. i can press on it and it moves the thing inside the engine but no gas is getting to the engine. does anyone know what could be wrong? cuz its stuck out in that field right now. I know the battery isnt dead. so do you think it could be the fuel pump or what?

It could be the fuel pump. Did you check the fuel pressure?

You didn't mention if the car cranks or starts I'm assuming its totaly dead.

-Check Spark (Battery and coils)
-Check Fuel Pressure (press little air plug on fuel line)

My Bet is on Spark. Battery can be charged but contacts might have come loose with the bumps somewhere.

There is a fuel line next to the valve cover at the end there is a cap looks like a tire air pressure plug. Take the cap off and press the fitting with your fingernail like when you let air out of tires. If fuel comes out you have fuel pressure. Be careful not to get fuel in your eyes.

yeah it might be the sparks. like ill turn the engine on and itll start to start but it wont kick over. it clicks and i can hear something trying to suck in gas maybe? but my gas tank says it is empty when i had half a tank before. so i think it has to do with that

Sounds like a loose connection to the fuel delivery sensor/pump. Check under the Jeep between the tank and rear axle there is a couple of plugs make sure everything is plugged.

Maybe you punched a hole in the tank while you were out thrashing and lost all of your fuel.

Buy a couple of tubes of JB Weld before you go back to the jeep. Make sure you buy the fast drying one. That should get you home if its a leak in the tank.

WalMart might have them Autozone has them for sure. Its a 2 part epoxy steel mix. You mix one tube with the other and it hardens. Bring a pen, popcicle stick or something to spread it with.
