Hey! I was first in post #10!

That's a whole slippery slope. Great issue though, I hope some others will chime in. Just the $5 Harbor Freight meter actually works. I know this for sure, I have maybe 6 of them in various states...they work new anyway!
The $3 meters of ebay don't seem as "robust" as the $5 HF ones.
I bought one I thought might be better at home Depot for about $25, something went screwy with it, now I just use it for the home battery bank voltage.
Hf also had a (larger) $20 meter that actually has a temp sensor deal. It's only Celcious, and it's plug for that actually doesn't even plug in the meter right. (gotta hold it).
Then for something "real", it shoots sky high. I looked at used Fluke, and others on ebay..people are bidding on them though...no break there...
The "cheap-o meter" from HF seems to work, just don't expect all the functions, (and the readout) to last. The $25 HD one, (here sort of in the middle), might not be a bad option. Mine has some problems, but I probably did something rude to it. Then the larger HF meter on the left...does temp, (accurately), has the "hold" feature, and has been working ok...$20

Well guys, on my way home from work the jeep overheated and started sputtering real bad so I shut it off immediately. I slowly opened the reservoir for the coolant and steam started shooting out for about 10 minutes. My coolant is all brown and looks like ****. Thinking about just getting rid of it.

Sheez. The aux fan did get mentioned, but it sounds like more attention on the overheating, and less in the high idle might have been better.
It can get ugly when you overheat, but your engine might be fine.
