Default It's my cat converter but is this normal?

After I fixed final exhaust leak my jeep lost all power and then it wouldn't start. It would only turn over and over.

It had all signs of CC so I yesterday I cut some slits and pretty big holes in the pipe above the CC to see if it would start. It did start but obviously it sounded horrible.

Then it cut back off and would take many try's to get it to start and I had no power even with pedal to floor it wouldn't or would barely move in R or D. Is this normal with the holes? Should it get better once I put on new CC. I thought it was supposed to run with pipe cut above CC.

I have never heard of cutting holes in the top of the CC but my CC finally broke apart inside and was severely cutting my power down but it never caused it not to start. I took the exhaust from the CC all the way back to the tailpipe out and it sounded like a tank but ran much much better. I am installing the new exhaust tomorrow from the up pipe, CC, muffler and tail pipe.
