Default Iron rock hack n tap sye

Ok so I have the money and am wanting to buy the hack n tap but is there anything cheaper? here's my current option
Iro hack n tap sye with drive shaft and the seal for 96 down for about 250$ but I heard a stock front drive shaft from an auto works and if so how much should I be able to pick up a used one or would it be better to go with a new one.

The H&T is pretty much the cheapest option, especially if you can pick up a used stock front DS. The IRO shaft is just a stock refurbished unit, nothing special. You can pick up a stock DS from the JY for pretty cheap, or even one on here in the for sale section.

dirtbound offroad has the cheapest hack and tap sye I've found.

You can use the front driveshaft from an auto xj.

If you have a 231 Get a full SYE, its worth it. if you ahve the 242 HNT is your only choice. I used the RE HNT $100 + adapter (25$) on my NP242, worked well, no issues. swapped out my TC for the NP231 and got a full SYE, its worth it. the new output shaft is a lot bigger and a cleaner setup.

would be better to buy a full SYE for $200 and get a front Drive-line out of an auto xj for $30-$35 and bolt it on the a HNT and a refurbished. just my .02!

I have installed dozens of hack n taps on various Jeeps and never had an issue or complaint. A HnT installed correctly will last forever. :-)

Money is the issue. I'm just guessing with the new refurbished shaft the u-joint assembly thing on the top is that redone? I heard you had to get the whole thing replaced if that happens. Also iro has free shipping. Will it save Money there vs dirt bounds?

hack and tap is nice because you dont have to remove the transfer case to instal it.

dirtbound takes off 10% for jeepforum and naxja idk which would be cheaper would have to go to thier site to check it out.

Checked out dirt bound. In the end iro really seems better just because It comes with a refurbished shaft so I dont have to worry about play in the shaft also the price isn't a huge difference between the 2 unless you have a 96+ then it's cheaper. I emailed iro to see if the sye drive shaft and seal qualify for the free shipping.

Something else to consider...

If you go with a traditional SYE and manage to destroy your tcase, you have a high chance of destroying your SYE as well.

If you have a HnT, it doesn't matter if the shaft gets damaged. You can just HnT the new one with the parts you have. No need to buy another SYE.

How easy is it to destroy a 231 like that.... It's a VERY stout tcase for our little jeeps.

I did the Iron rock hack n tap works great. check this thread below i took pics and posted it to show how easy it is. i had my transfer case out but it is just as easy to do it in the vehicle just leave in 2 wheel drive in reverse and hold the 4"mini grinder to the shaft and let the cutting begin. nice and slow it will cut like butter.
