So I'm back on the jeep scene with a 99 xj 4.0. The check engine light wasn't on when I went home with the jeep then I got home. I get that p0443 refers to evap solenoid. I checked voltage at the pig tail and got 13 volts on one terminal and 4 volts on the other. Is that normal? Then does the evap canister open atmosphere vent behind the trans dipstick? Because I smoked the evap system and it was dumping there. Then with the solenoid plugged back up it ticked with about a half a second or so between ticks. So I smoked that too and it is in fact opening and closing at that half second interval. I'm at a loss for why the hell this is throwing a code other than open air venting behind trans dipstick.

 

I had my light come on yesterday for this same issue. Looking forward to seeing some responses.

 

If your evap solenoid gets dirt/dust in it it will not seal/function properly causing the code to be thrown, a dirty vent filter will cause the solenoid to get contaminated, recommend replacing filter with solenoid, check lines for cracking too common problems

 

Smoked the evap system and it dumps behind the trans dipstick is this normal?
