Alternator problem resolved
While driving home, the "Check Gauges" light came on I observed the voltmeter reading 9 volts. Got home, checked the battery cables and cleaned all the ground wires. Next trip voltmeter read normal. Several days later "check gauges" light came on again with voltmeter reading 9 volts. Went to AutoZone and had battery checked (OK). Again next trip voltmeter read normal. Days later "Check Gauges" light came on again. Removed alternator and had it checked (Ok!) Again voltmeter read normal, several days later it read 9 volts and almost left me stranded but I made it home. I replaced the alternator( 136,000 miles on it) as a precaution and now after 2,000 miles I have not had another incident.

Jet, we appreciate you sharing. Leaving out what you have is not helpful. Leaving out who, and how it was tested really doesn't matter. Unless it 's a real guy at at an actual shop.....Automatically Zoned might might not be a good source.

He's talking about replacing the alternator on a F-22 Raptor, duh.
