So I just bought my first XJ about 2 weeks ago (a '97 Sport). The headliner was suffering, so today I started at addressing that issue. After taking everything apart and reupholstering the headliner, I started putting everything back together. After reconnecting both sun visors, front and rear dome lights, etc., suddenly none of the interior lights work. I turned my interior lights on via headlight ****...still nothing. What am I missing?

 

If they worked before doing the headliner, but dont work after, go back thru the wiring.

 

I had similar problems on both my '96, took a fair while with a test light and continuity probe to sort out.

What I found is there are fuses in the inside box, (not labelled correctly)..check for power on each end of all fuses...takes 10min

I also found bad connections up in the lights themselves

the worst issue was internally compromised wires, can be tricky to find. I had to piggyback a couple
