The newer ones like yours may be different but my old junk has multiple bulbs that illuminate the gear selector selections. You may have a bulb burned out.

You should be able to pull the cover from around the shifter, and the bulb fits into the back of it. I don't remember the size of the bulb, but they are very common. HTH!!

Alright so i ran out into the garage and investigated a little bit but im stumped heres why (i took pics too)
A pic of my setup

heres a pic that show the T case lit up but not the gear selector

After i took the pic i just poped the cover off (which was very easy i must say) and after looking at all the linkage cause its cool i realized that there are no bulbs and no harness you can clearly see the wires running down to the Tcase lever for the lights if you look closely you can see to groups of wires running down there do you think both bulbs are down there? or what?

My 2001 has a socket and bulb in the panel you removed. It goes in the panel pretty much on the back side of the D indicator.

Try GENTLY tugging on the wires to see if it just fell off and down into the crevice.

Is there a spot on the back of the cover you removed for the light to fit in?

Thumbs up

Go to the auto parts buy a small bulb and socket splice it to the wires that go to your transfer case shirt window. Install new bulb and socket any where you get the amount of light you want on your P-N-D selector window. If you dont want to drill or screw clean good use a gob of silicon RTV your choice of colors I faver clear. let sit for 24 hours your good to go. spray a little wd-40 or something similar on you shift pivota and linkage and a little grease where the lockin assy part is it will glide beween park and drive,, Good luck

Loosen the console. I bet what you need is down in there somewhere close to the set of wires feeding the transfercase selector window. You may get rich too. I found 47 cents inside mine. Just a few screws to get the whole thing loose if it is like my older one.
