May be a dumb question, but wouldn't taking half of the roof off weaken the integrity of the chassis? Only way I can see it working is to stiffen up the frame.

I do like what he's done with it, very original and really cool. Maybe could be an idea for a magazine build.

yeah it looks awesome you just have to do some bracing when doing things like this when you take out that much roof you have to add some strength back in

I have also talked to him on another forum and it is a very well done XJ. With a full cover for the bed and everything. And somehow I doubt that cutting a portion of your roof of will cause your XJ to fold like a taco. It's just been done too many times, and they still work just fine. With just a small amount of reinforcement I would say you'd be just fine...

friend of mine did that as well, he plated his entire frame with 1/8" from the INSIDE and the rear section is plenty braced

I told you my unibody hates me- haha, the real reason i chopped it was to get rid of some windows that kept foggin up when snowplowing my 200' driveway, now that its spring, the top rack is going back on. I wonder what i should do next, to the heep, any suggestions?

I think that's the first time I've seen a plow on an XJ. Down here, other than trucks I've only ever seen one on a Wrangler.

Nice mod. What did you with bed? I'm assume its now a truck bed, maybe rhino lined with a tail gate? Or am I way off.

noop- under the cover, still was the whole interior, even the carpet, dog likes to hide under there, but in the winter, i toss my spare tire back there, and toolbox.and inclose it in with a removable partition. checkout my build thread link, now that i have fixed the link to it, but i am now in the process of ditchin it all, welding in a few more supports, closing in the back and making it into a open truck bed, with a prerunner bar fabbed up to hold the spare in the back , Ill post some pics, as i go. Oh thanks for the nice complements on my heep guys - cheers rob
