Default Intake heat shield material

I want to fab up a little shield/box around my intake filter mainly to keep it clean when im muddin or drivin on the beach. I know alot of you will say its a waste of time to try to make a cone filter induct cooler air but i am going to build the shield anyway so what material would be the best for keeping a little bit of heat out? I was thinking aluminum, any suggestions?

(thicker, like 1/8") Sheet aluminum should work, and will be easier to work with. If you want to insulate it, use something like "dynamat" on the inside.

I'd suggest plastic, anything but metal, if you're looking to get cooler air into the motor. Metal close to the filter acts like a heat sink, attracts, absorbs, then reflects the heat back at the air filter.

Aluminum? Yes. 1/8" thick? Not so much.

The thicker aluminum will tend to hold heat in and actually heat the air up before it goes into the filter.

Work with something thinner - .030"-.060" should do (about half as thick.) It will also be easier to work.

If at all possible, you may want to try to duct air in directly from outside the vehicle as well.

I can concur with the idea of insulating it on the inside surface, tho - helps keep it from radiating to the filter side.

5-90s is right about the thinner aluminum, you could try this
