Default Instrument Cluster (only works in cold weather)

Hi all,

I am hoping someone has some ideas to help me get my instrument cluster. The jeep runs great and in the cold mornings, the gauges will work until I either turn the car off or it gets warm outside. I have been reading some other forums on here and some state to hit the side of the cluster to work or to take apart and clean and grease with diaelecrtic. I am going to try the ladder this week. All the forums I have read I havent heard anybody that had the same problem as mine. I took the vehicle in the stealership as I think it might be electric but they want my first born grandchild to fix what they say is a relay problem...any thoughts?

Thank You

Don't use dielectric grease, it will only aggravate a problem.

Just for the heck of it, what does the dealership think it is exactly? I know you say a relay problem.

Mine did this when I got it. There's an updated plug you install to fix the problem.

As someone who tinkers with (non-automotive) electronics a bit, it sounds like a bad solder joint. When it heats up the solder expands and makes an electrical connection between things you don't want connected.

Not sure if there are any solder connections in the instrument wiring, though. If you are cleaning contacts and connectors you should use a contact cleaner like Caig DeOxit, not dielectric grease (dielectric grease is an electrical insulator, which will make the problem worse).
