New here with a IOD issuse in my '01 XJ Classic. After replacing 2 fuses because they blow immediately after turning the key on, makes me think i have other problems. Do I need to start chasing wires in the harness?

Have you checked the fuses for the instrument cluster?

Fuse 9 in the Junction Block (diagram in the above post) and fuse 16 in the PDC. Fuse 16 is the IOD fuse. It is identified on the undersurface of the PDC cover. Both of these fuses power the instrument cluster.
Hey CCKen, Grumpy Old Man, Wayne, here. It has taken me days to finally be able to post something. I'm 75 and not real savy on this computer stuff. I can't even find your links that I followed. Sure could use your help. My wife not happy she can't drive her 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 4.0 ! Gauges quit while she was driving. Would start but quit after 3 seconds. Got a P1686 code and thru various help determined the SKIM Module was bad. Dealer/mechanics couldn't guarantee they could fix it. Ended up sending the ECM to All Computr Resources in FL for a SKIM Delete. Physically removed the Bad SKIM Module, reinstalled the ECU and Great, Jeep started right up and runs perfect except there are no gauges. Checked ALL fuses ohmmeter and they are good. Started jeep checked all fuses for voltage flow with test light, all again are good. Started tests in DLC between pins 3 and 4, also between 3 and 5, reads 5 volts, you stated it should be 2.5. Then tested between 11 and 4, no reading (0), then between 11 and 5, again no reading (0). That's where I am presently. Sure could use help !!! Again I'm 75 and not real good at this computerized, communication, message stuff. I can rebuild Carter Carbs and Muncie 4 speeds with the best of them or at least could in the past. Now I need help. Thank You, Wayne

I'm afraid CCKen is no longer with us. Quite a loss.

I had this same issue. There is a rubber boot in the passenger side door and the power wire, which is a thick brown wire with a white stripe, is probably broken. These models made the ground wire good, but the power wire in the doors is too long, gets caught and snipped. I found a youtube video showing issue, checked mine and fixed in five minute.
